Mission 43, April 2024 Veterans Airlift Command

Mission Team: Sloan, Hunkins

Objectives: Continuing our work with Veterans Airlift Command, we had the privilege of helping a true American hero. President Peter Sloan, along with co-pilot Col. Thad Hunkins completed our 43rd mission. While on deployment in 2006, Marine Lt Andrew K stepped on and detonated an IED, resulting in extreme injuries including the loss of both of his legs at the hip. In the years since his injury, he has had to undergo hundreds of surgeries and procedures.

Lt K. became a beacon of inspiration, embodying resilience, courage, and unwavering determination. Despite facing adversity, he refused to let his injuries define him. Since his retirement, he has served on the board of directors with the Wounded Warrior Project. He attended Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School, completing a joint degree, and has since obtained his pilot's license. It was our honor to escort the Lt from MD to SC where he will be able to heal from his most recent procedure.
